Terrorism: Crime or Asymmetrical Warfare? |
|
Lieutenant Raymond E. Foster, LAPD (ret.), MPA |
|
"Thus it is said that one who knows the enemy and knows himself will not
be endangered in a hundred engagements." Sun Tzu, The Art of War.
This series of six articles explores terrorism and the first
responder. In this introductory article, we will begin by exploring the
definition of terrorism with the expectation that a clearer definition
of terrorism, what is a terrorist act, and what is terrorist activity,
will make us more effective. By the end of the series, we will have
explored a variety of terrorist-related subjects, culminating with a
look at how and possibly why terrorism has changed dramatically in the
last three decades.

Small Unit Leadership "The Jump Start" |
|
By Robert Mallory, Staff Writer |
|
Part Two in a Twelve Part Series
It's your first day in your assignment. Perhaps you are a newly
appointed leader, or you have been transferred into a new assignment.
How do you establish leadership? How do you get things moving in the
right direction? You have the positional authority, the stripes or bars
or whatever symbol of leadership. The position is only one type of
leadership power and for the most part the weakest.

Integrated Driving and Use of Force Simulation Training |
|
By Todd Brown, Chief Trainer for IES Interactive Training |
|
Why does it always seem so long for good ideas to come to fruition? Man
had ideas for powered flight for millennia but it wasn't until a little
over a hundred years ago that this idea was finally realized with the
Wright Brothers historic flight in Kittyhawk, N.C.
For law enforcement, the idea of simulation training has been around
for quite some time. In fact, law enforcement trainers have used
simulation technology to help combat the top two liability concerns for
all agencies: driving/auto accidents and use of force.
